Survival lessons from the original SHTF movie – Panic in Year Zero!

I recently did a video about the survival and prepping lessons that can be learned from one of the original and classic SHTF movies, “Panic in year Zero” , which you can check out HERE
Unfortunately some of the footage for that video got corrupted somehow, and the video was already so long that I decided to do a quick article here instead of trying to add more to that video.
One of the points I made that didn’t make it into the video was about how the father carried a significant amount of cash. Of course this was before the age of credit cards, so that was your only option, but it was the only reason he was able to buy a significant amount of supplies before things got really bad. He spent over $400 in cash, which in today’s dollars would be equivalent to over $3000.
Nobody carries that kind of cash these days, and most people don’t carry almost any. In fact, the vast majority of Americans don’t even have anywhere near that amount of cash in their homes.
No matter what type of disaster or SHTF scenario you are facing, it is likely that electronic communications and transactions will be spotty at best, and cash is frequently the only way to buy things. We’ve seen this happen time and time again in low-level SHTF scenarios. If the situation is incredibly dire then cash will eventually be worthless, but there will almost certainly be a time in the early stages where vendors will still be willing to sell their goods for money, but won’t have the ability to accept anything but physical cash. For this reason I strongly urge all preppers to store an emergency fund of at least a couple thousand dollars (in your home, not the bank).
I also mentioned a few products that would be very useful, potentially even life saving, if you were to find yourself in a situation similar to the characters in the movie. They are listed below:
