I think it is safe to say that within the prepping and survival community, gold, guns, and other highly valuable items are sort of a big deal. There are a lot of different reasons why you might want to own those and a host of other high-dollar items. Regardless of your motivations however, one thing I can say for certain is that we all want to hold on to them.

There are several ways you can protect your valuables from thievery and seizure, including hiding them, but one of the most common ways is by using a quality safe. One issue with safes that is not commonly mentioned is that it is very important to anchor them into the ground. Otherwise even a large safe can be carried or wheeled away by a few people (that’s how it got IN to your house after all, and it can leave the same way) or simply tipped over, which dramatically increases the ease to crack it open.

Simply anchoring it into the floor makes it almost impossible to do either of those things, making your items much safer.

If you have wooden floors you will need a drill bit for the pilot holes and the appropriate size screws (or lag bolts if you are going all the way through a floor with a crawl space underneath).

If you have concrete floors like I do, the process is a little more difficult but the results are very sturdy.

You will need:

Concrete wedge anchors – (make sure they are the right size to fit through the holes in your safe). These are the ones I used:

Masonry Drill Bit – The wedge anchors will tell you what size bit to use. This is the ones I used:

Hammer Drill – You can use a normal drill, but it will take a LOT longer and may burn through some bits. I recommend doing whatever you can to get ahold of a hammer drill. This is the one I used:
